Whale Rider
February 25th, 2004 Posted in CultureI finally saw Whale Rider last night, which is a look into Maori culture in Eastern New Zealand. This is the one Keisha Castle-Hughes received an Oscar nomination for. To her credit, her acting was incredible, especially for her age. This being a non-Hollywood movie, it didn’t follow the formulatic girl in man’s world storyline, which was refreshing. I wouldn’t say the movie is great, but it’s not bad either. It’s a good movie to just sit down and watch, if you are in the mood for a nice story about a different culture.
